Of Plants and of People
The following article is my reflections upon reading the an article called “death by privacy” in the book “Men in Black: How the Supreme Court Is Destroying America”.
It is interesting (to say the least) the way that the supreme court has the right to pour their own opinion into the decisions made. These men have never been voted for by ANY U.S. Citizen, nor do they represent the popular opinion of America. They have been given the authority to choose life or death, yet we never gave them that right.
Something that Levin wrote that stuck me hard was how animals and plants have more rights that human babies. “American’s are fined or imprisoned for destroying wildlife or even wetlands, and these laws have been ruled constitutional”(Levin, 67). Kids who are conceived (by no choice of theirs) are ruthlessly murdered while a rotting bog, with a large mosquito population is kept as sacred or holy (Don’t get me wrong, I fully believe in protecting our environment).
If we decide that a babie’s life is not sacred, how long will it be before a toddler’s life is not sacred. Then soon after we will decide that teenagers have not fully matured, and can be “aborted” so that parents can still have the right to CHOOSE.
