Liberalism: Tearing Down Our Nations Morals
Over the past fifty years, there have been drastic changes in the culture that we live in. While in previous decades it was not appropriate for a couple to be seen sharing the same bed on television, organizations like the ACLU have openly defended the right to owning child pornography. This is but one example of how our nation has gone from one extreme to another. What can be the source of mental pollution on Americans today? It is the rise of liberal thinking in politics and the media which has helped to produce the moral decline of the American people.
A serious problem with the liberals that are changing the way our nation thinks is that their priorities are out of order. One very obvious issue is that of gay marriage. The rise of homosexuality in the US has become so apparent. The question of whether or not gays should be allowed to marry has been an ongoing issue for several years now. As homosexuals have become open about their “gayness”, the gay lifestyle has become widely accepted among the populous. Liberals are now trying to force our nation to accept homosexuality as “normal”, which is not a good sign for the future. If we change our culture and laws just appeal to homosexuals, then what will happen when a group of people want to legalize incest? What about polygamy? Bestiality? I know, it might not sound fair to compare a gay couple with a man and his pig, but, honestly, we need to look int the future and see where all this is going. Of course, we need to accept gay people for who they are, but accepting a person is not the same as saying that what they do is absolutely fine.
The bottom line is that we need to keep our focus on what is important, which is preserving what is decent in America. The liberals need to be contained before they tear down our nation’s morals completely. If our nation has no morals, then how can we possibly progress as a country? It is a serious issue, and must be addressed now.

I don’t think that you can equate the terms “liberal” and “immoral.” Let us not forget that many of our “conservative” politicians in this country have been consumed by greed, involved in scandals (including those of sexual nature) and countless other things. It is not those who share liberal ideas that are contributing to the downfall of morality, but simply those without morals, be them either conservative or liberal. Many of us share liberal political views AND are strong and devout Christians (in the true sense of the word, not simply by label). Conservative does not equal moral, and to say that liberals must be contained is not to proper viewpoint, nor is it probably the viewpoint of Christ. I doubt that Jesus would place the blame of immorality on an entire people group. Perhaps instead of passing laws which prohibit gays and others, we should focus our attention on welcoming them into our church, and changing their heart, not simply passing more laws.

I just want to take a minute to point out a couple things with this argument that really aren’t true. For one, it is not liberal thinking in politics and media which produce moral decline in our society. It’s actually rather the other way around, with a decline in society’s morality resulting in people in politics and media who display “liberal” thinking. And secondly, where does the connection come that all “liberal” thinking is bad? Liberals in congress have a lot more to say than just about homosexuality or abortion, and that should be considered.
Consider that “liberals” in congress tend to think of the “little guys” in our nation’s population. The methods and ideas they present for coping with the issue may not be the best, but at least the thought exists, and the motive is to help. How many of us as individuals who see a homeless person will help them out by offering a bed to stay in, or an education so they can get a job? How many of us make meals for the unemployed? Or help out the single moms and dads trying to work and raise their kids at the same time? The truth is, most of us don’t bother. We try to shrug off the fact that these problems are real and exist in our society so we can go on living in our safe “bubble”. Another question is, how many of us, as Christians, have this same ignorance toward the need around us?
To return to the first point, the decline in our society is not liberals in politics, nor is it the media. The decline is the result of forgetting God and his Truth. The immoral “liberal” ideas and the decline in the morality of our society stem from that and that alone. I will also point out that morality cannot be regulated. You can’t make a law to impose “morals” on someone who does not consider them to be important morals, or even true. It just doesn’t work. Rather, the best you can hope to do is reach them with the truth about Jesus Christ. Only then, with the transformation that comes through the process of sanctification will the realization of right and wrong and absolute standards come back to reality, and become a priority.
A nation that has forgotten the Creator cannot be expected to remember His truth. So what is important now? Not whether you’re liberal, conservative, or apathetic. What’s important is this: Jesus came into the world to die once and for all for our sins. To save us and offer us eternal life. The reality is, there are far too many people out there who don’t know Him as savior. So what are we waiting for? The battle isn’t in Washington, Hollywood or New York. The real battle is all around us. It’s not a battle of liberalism, but a battle for souls. The ultimate question is, what are we, as Christians, going to do about it?

Firstly, I do not want you to think that I either Agree OR Disagree with anything and everything that you have said. I do however have one objection. Although I consider myself to be a conservative, I think that your use of the word Liberalism could be defined better. The definition of “liberal” according to Dictionary.com is simply put, “favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties"( Dictionary.reference.com/browse/liberal ). It is also the idea of open mindedness. So I think it is not necessarily “Liberalism” that you are after, but maybe the UNRESTRICTED use of liberalism to gain freedom from ANY restrictions such as those put down to prevent people from harming others. If our forefathers had not be “liberal” by definition, the pilgrims never would have left England, we would have never challenged the British Empire, and the Freedom loving country we cherish so much would never have been established! So maybe it would be better to find a different label that means more what you are actually trying to say.
