Bohemia
Bohemia is a region in the western part of the Czech Republic. It covers 20,734 square miles and has about 7 million people. It is a saucer shaped plateau, ringed by hills and mountains. The word Bohemia comes from the word Boii. The Boii were a Celtic tribe that were the 1st inhabitants of the region. In AD 1158, Emperor Frederick I, the Holy Roman Emperor, gave the title of king to the duke of Bohemia. The political and cultural peak of Bohemia was reached during the 1300’s when Charles IV ruled as king of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor.
