Border Showdown

World Magazine recently published an article discussing the split in opinions over the issue of immigration. This has developed into something rather important of late because of the huge rise in illegal immigration. Immigration has been brought onto the forefront of the political spectrum because of the bill trying to be passed that would grant citizenship to millions of illegals. The Senate ( as well as President Bush) is in favor of passing it, while the House of Representatives is largely opposed. Consequently, Congress is split in half.

This is only an example of the huge division throughout the entire United States on this ever-growing issue. Many American’s feel that Illegals should be able to have their shot at a life in “the land of the free” while others feel they should not be allowed to enter America without a visa and be allowed to stay.

Personally, I feel that Illegal Immigrants are breaking the law and that it makes no sense to reward them. It’s perfectly reasonable to expect them to get a visa and enter this country under our laws. The United States should not be condoning this behavior by giving free citizenship to all. They should be cracking down and focusing on helping it eliminate the problem instead of encouraging more illegals to cross the border with the dream of “citizenship for all” looming in their minds.
